The "Spirit" of Ultimate - very important

One of the best things about Ultimate is the sportsmanship. The game (even professional games) is self-judged. People call fouls, and even call fouls on themselves. A player may contest a foul and the decision will go to an observer (only there to call travels, and settle disputes). But players do not contest fouls unless they truly believe it was a clean play. Please do not try and lie, it ruins the game and takes away from the major difference between Ultimate, and other sports.

Sportsmanship includes respect to all players. If a man is guarding you to close (when you have the disc), just tell him to back of a little bit. This does not mean you bop him on the head with the disc, or push him out of the way.

The point of Ultimate is physical endurance, not physical strength to push the other guy around. What makes Ultimate exciting are the ways the defense tries to recover the disc, without pushing the guy with brute strength (and it looks really cool when you layout to knock a disc away).

Please keep this in mind. It's not just a school rule protecting students. It really is the way the game is played; the result of it, is intense playing, but not fighting, making the game better for everyone (cliche, but true)

Suggestions

So just comment on this topic on any suggestion, ideas and soforth

Ultimate Terms!

Ok so I use these terms all the time, so if you want translation, read below (it's kinda geeky i know but bear with me).

Disc - Frisbee

Handler - main thrower, normally good

Bid- Diving/ going for a badly thrown disc and making your body push your limits

Layout- Dive full extend (like superman)

Pull- Opening drive or "kickoff"

Forcing Flick/Forehand- the side that you stand on of the handler so that he has to throw it on a side that is closest to the line (and thus harder to catch inbound).

Poppers/Zone Deep - offensive positions against zone defense (don't worry about that for now)

Cup: 3 defenders that make a semi-circle in front of the handler to make it tough to throw

This list will be updated

Ultimate Discussion 10/8 / rules

Ok guys that was a great game. Very close towards the end.

We did not get to discuss anything regarding bake sale, ultimate team ect. So we will have a "real" meeting sometime soon (check your email for date).

Rules

  1. One foot must be inbounds or in endzone to count.
  2. The correct distance from the handler is his "forearm plus Frisbee' length.
  3. No Traveling: As soon as one gets the disc, they must stop immediately (allowing a few steps for momentum) You CANNOT stop, then take 2 steps. Once your feet are planted, you are allowed one pivot foot, if the fulcrum foot moves, it's a travel
Endzone Rules
  1. If your momentum carries you into the endzone, you must take it back to the line and throw it in.
  2. If the pull is caught in the endzone, it must be thrown from where it's caught.
  3. If a team makes an interception in their own endzone, it is called a "Callahan" and the interception counts as a touchdown.
  4. A dropped disc in the endzone must be taken to the line in every case, with the exception of the pull (see above)

Rules regarding contact

  1. Boxing out with body only when going up for the disk is allowed, any shoving pushing ect, is not.
  2. If their is a mid-air collision, it is only legal if the person who hit the other had his hands on or near the disk.
  3. No stripping: Do not whack the disc out of the hands of the handler. Only block the disc once it is thrown is allowed.
General rules (rules pertaining mainly if we were to play a real game)
  1. Games are to either 11,13 or 15 depending on time
  2. once one team reaches 6,7 or 8 it is half time
  3. one timeout per half per team
  4. Each team has 7v7
  5. The field is 70X40 yards plus an addition 25 yards for each endzone

So thats it for now there are many rules not listed here, but these are the main ones.
